After the Wolverines officially sealed the deal with five-star QB Bryce Underwood and a boatload of other top prospects, Michigan was named by a couple publications as one of the winners of National Signing Day for the 2025 class:
Sherrone Moore had one hell of a first National Signing Day as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, getting 2025 five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, five-star offensive lineman Andrew Babalola and several other highly regarded recruits to officially sign with the maize and blue.
For Moore’s efforts on the recruiting trail, Michigan was deemed one of the “winners” of National Signing Day by Rivals and by The Sporting News.
Here is what Rivals had to say about the Wolverines’ efforts on Wednesday:
Less than a week ago, Michigan beat Ohio State so the Wolverines are riding high and they’re still in the clouds after flipping five-star QB Bryce Underwood from LSU. Add on five-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, who chose the Wolverines over Colorado and in recent days Michigan flipped Clemson DB commit Jordan Young and five-star Auburn DE commit Nathaniel Marshall plus the Wolverines added three-star DL Travis Moten and that’s a really nice run.
And here is what The Sporting News wrote:
Michigan went 7-5 in 2024, but you would not know it right now. Moore went from hot seat to hot shot.
Bryce Underwood (Belleville, Mich.) — the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2025 — flipped to Michigan on Nov. 21. The Wolverines beat Ohio State 13-10, and Moore reeled in a solid recruiting class that includes five-star tackle Andrew Babaloa (Blue Valley Northwest Overland Park, Kan.) and tight end Andrew Olesh (Southern Lehigh, Center Valley, Pa.).
This is a top-10 recruiting class with comparable rankings to Oregon and Ohio State, and that momentum from a fourth straight victory against the Buckeyes should carry over in recruiting.
Both publications really seem to value Michigan flipping Underwood as a major reason to deem the Wolverines a winner. And honestly, I can’t blame them. Getting the No. 1 overall player — and a player at the most important position in sports — to flip to you when all hope was lost is nothing short of incredible. Moore and general manager Sean Magee put in the requisite time, effort and, of course, NIL funds to make it possible, but Michigan pulling a rabbit out of its hat to make it all work at the end of the day is going to pay dividends for years to come.
The Wolverines still have work to do, as four-star cornerback Jayden Sanders and four-star tight end Andrew Olesh have yet to be announced by the program. There isn’t any worry about Sanders — especially considering Moore talked about him during his Signing Day press conference on Wednesday — but Olesh has yet to make a final decision. He is committed to Michigan, but is being heavily courted by Penn State and Oregon heading into his signing ceremony on Friday.
Still, Moore has put together a really good first class at Michigan. According to the 247Sports composite, the Wolverines own the No. 7 overall class as of now.
