ZURICH, Switzerland (CMC):
Top Jamaican international Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is among 16 players nominated for the Women’s Player of the Year award at the 2024 FIFA Best Awards.
Nominees have been selected based on their performances between August 21, 2023 and August 10, 2024.
During that period, the 27-year-old Manchester City forward has been spectacular, having scored three hat tricks for her club and becoming just the second non-European player to win the Golden Boot in the Women’s Super League (WSL).
Shaw’s 21 league goals for City were also the joint third highest in a single WSL campaign.
She also copped several awards including the PFA Women’s Player of the Year, the 2023-2024 WSL Player of the Season and was also named the Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year for the 2023-204 season.
Her Manchester City teammate Lauren Hemp is also among the nominees for the prestigious award.
Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati, who took home the award in 2023, is also among the nominees again.
Voting for the ninth annual awards is open on Fifa.com and closes on December 10.
The winner will be announced during an awards ceremony in January 2025.
