KETCHUM, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals are coming to the Wood River Valley next March, and now a brand-new festival is hoping to share in the spirit. Here’s what you need to know about 5850 Fest.
Sun Valley Resort and the city of Ketchum will have a chance to show off to a worldwide audience when the Ski World Cup Finals come to town March 20-27.
“We’re very excited about this World Cup, we’ve always loved the idea of having a big ski event here, skiing is what our town is all about,” said Ketchum Mayor Neil Bradshaw.
Bradshaw knows the town’s reputation as a tourist destination, especially during the ski season.
But this year, that’s not the only thing drawing people to the mountain town as it will also play host to the inaugural “5850 Fest.”
“So 5850 is the elevation on one of the streets that the event will be happening and we like to call it the elevation of celebration, it’s literally where the party will happen,” said Jenny Dupre, a co-founder of 5850 Fest. “It’s where we will all congregate around to celebrate the races, celebrate the athletes and just to enjoy this time in Idaho.”
This festival will take place around the area during World Cup week and will feature concerts from artists like Sugar Ray and the Barenaked Ladies.
There will also be appearances from celebrity chefs and a standup night with Wayne’s World star Dana Carvey.
Planning for a big event like this requires a team; lucky for Dupre, that’s been the least of her worries.
“I think one of the most amazing things so far has been the trailblazing, let’s hold hands and do this together, how do we pool resources? How do we make this happen together? And that has come from the resort to the US ski team to the city of Ketchum,” Dupre said.
While these events are still a few months away, Mayor Bradshaw says it’s never too early for people to visit his city.
“We’re really here to provide the canvas for which everyone can just paint their picture and enjoy their time,” Bradshaw said.
